Supporting Business in Edmonton

When it comes to our economy, I’m committed to supporting local businesses to thrive. Creating the conditions for businesses to prosper and attracting investments in Edmonton benefits everyone.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with local businesses in Ward Anirniq through phone-calls, emails, site visits, partnering with the Chamber of Commerce to co-host a meet and greet - and of course by supporting local businesses personally as a resident myself!

Here are some of the business-friendly items we are moving forward on as a City and as a Council:

  • Streamlining the  permitting, licensing, and land development applications through the Permit and Licensing Improvement Initiative (PLI) . I’m pleased to see reports of faster timelines and how Edmonton received an award from the Government of Alberta for Red Tape Reduction!

  • Unlocking potential industrial growth by strategic funding the off-ramps at 137 Ave and Anthony Henday after hearing from industry.

  • Providing One-on-One Support Program to provide new or existing business owners and entrepreneurs (including Home-Based Businesses) with the information they need to be successful. The one-on-one support expert can help with navigating processes like permitting/licensing and explore options for their business to thrive.

  • Supporting the Digital Economy Program which offers FREE one-on-one assistance to small businesses to build their online presence.

  • Council approved the Edmonton Edge Fund Program to promote the innovation and start-up business community.

  • Changing policies to support industrial land development and seeing the tax-uplift in the same, or shorter, amount of time. A real win-win!

  • Supporting the Edmonton Screen Industries to better support local talent and attract investment to the Edmonton region.

In addition to all of the new and exciting work underway for economic development - here is a  list of available grants to support local businesses. Please help spread the word!

  • Business Improvement Area Grants, including:

    • Storefront Improvement Grant

    • Storefront Refresh Grant

    • Interior Building Improvement Grant

    • Development Incentive Program
