This morning we learned of the heartbreaking event that two Edmonton Police Service officers were killed in the line of duty in the early hours of the day. Constable Travis Jordan and Constable Brett Ryan lost their lives while carrying out their public service duties.
Community members have reached out to my office and asked to have their condolences extended to the loved ones, family, and community at large. I’ve spent the morning connecting with community members in the area. I had a pre-scheduled coffee event in the ward that was near the neighbourhood where the tragedy occurred and it was important for me to keep this commitment by being with the public today. As a City, we are grieving. I want to share our deepest condolences on behalf of the community.
While this event was recent and many are still trying to process the terrible loss, I want to acknowledge the concerns from the residents surrounding public safety. I hear you and I stand by you in taking these concerns very seriously.
Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the two officers, and to the entire Edmonton Police Service and extended first responders community. We honour and thank Constables Jordan and Ryan for their service.
