Committee Rotation: Urban Planning Committee

I’ve previously shared a blog about how committees work. Some of the committee memberships rotate throughout the term. The recent committee member switch-up means I’m moving from the Executive Committee to the Urban Planning Committee starting this month!

The Urban Planning committee deals with a wide range of topics including land-use planning, transportation, housing, parks, and more.

Here are a few things I’m looking forward to diving into:

1. Growth Management - I’ve heard residents' concerns about responsible growth. There will be many discussions and reports coming back related to growth management. It’s important to consider the cost of growth as the City needs to service more roads, sidewalks, parks, access to transit, etc.

2. Environment - Preserving our parks, green spaces, and River Valley remains a priority to folks I talk to - as these are some of the City's most valuable assets. I look forward to continuing to discuss how we have great vibrant and healthy urban environments that are resilient to changes in climate.

3. City Plan Implementation - Edmonton’s Zoning Bylaw and District Plans are 2 major city-building projects that’ll be coming to committee. Check out the following information and provide your thoughts on this upcoming work!

    • Zoning Bylaw Renewal

    • District Planning

I really enjoy that these committee meetings are public so Edmontonians can see their local Government in action! You can participate by watching online, in-person, or by signing up to speak on topics that matter to you.

I’m also always happy to speak with residents so reach out anytime! What are your thoughts on how the city should continue to build?
